Luna and
Friends
Beginning in
2003, a series of bootleggers from China and Hong Kong began circulating
their own line of "Luna and Friends" plush dolls. Initially, the
focus was on Luna. Then they added variants for Artemis with blue, red and
green eyes. Next was Diana in adult and kitten forms. Then Kousagi's cat
popped up in light and dark shades of pink, with blue and red eyes. Finally,
an entire line of cats from the planet Mau started popping up as friends of
Luna and Artemis, showing that the originators were just that curious about
the manga origins of Usagi and Minako's guardians. As of 2019, the line has
expanded to plushies for Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor
Venus, a few Vocaloids and a whole line of
accessories and phone cases for Luna, Artemis, Diana and Kousagi's cat. These
bootlegs were so popular, that even some real retail establishments have made
the mistake of ordering them, only to find out too late that they are not
licensed. This line appears online and at surviving shopping malls.
