After Sailor Moon Sailor StarS ended in
1997, Toei Animation had a bit of a panic, trying to come up with another
good Shoujo product. After trial and error, PreCure
ended up being the one with staying power, and the metaseries has recently
entered the Guinness Book of Records for having a film with the most amount
of female superheroes on screen at one time, a feat that took place in their
2018 film. The series has shared a director with Sailor
Moon Crystal and several voice actresses from both the 1990's and
the 2010's Sailor Moon anime series. Of
course there are crossover bootlegs, especially considering that both Sailor
Moon herself and several of the PreCure lineup are set to have a legit
crossover in t-shirts as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Another
thing not helping? Toei openly lifted design ideas from Sailor Moon and
Sailor Chibi Moon's items and hair styles, and they keep re-using them each
year.
  
 
And why should I be surprised? They also did this with another magical girl
series, Magica DoReiMi, and they gave zero
shits about it.
 
Hell,
that whole thing in Huggto PreCure where Cure Tomorrow comes back to the past
disguised as a baby? That's blatantly stolen from Sailor Cosmos's story in
the Sailor Moon manga.
 
 
Hell, they even traced over the part from episode 200 where Chibi Chibi
reveals herself as Galaxia's Starseed.
 
The thing where Cure Tomorrow time travels to save her 14 year old mom?
Sound familiar to you?
HELLO! That is Chibiusa in Sailor Moon R.
 
And Cure Tomorrow's mom? Oh for fuck's sakes, THAT'S CHIBIUSA!!
I laugh my ass off when people say "oh nobody who traces or is inspired
by Sailor Moon ever makes money off of doing that" because I'm sitting
here, looking at Toei and thinking "Bitch, do you have eyes?" Like
it or not, Pretty Cure/PreCure is the biggest, most blatant Sailor Moon rip
off of all time, and shamelessly so when you look at how much is just stolen
from the original series.
